Rob Ritchie

From a very young age Rob had an interest in art and was always painting and drawing. His painting remained a hobby until 1993, aged 27, when he decided to make it his full-time career. With no formal training and being completely self-taught. Rob has continually worked at improving and refining his skill's in painting over many years, and continues to do so to this day. After re-locating from London to Herefordshire in 2003, he expanded into selling to galleries, with collectors eager to buy his work. Rob spent some time in the field of miniaturism and these exhibitions in London have been received with sell-out shows of these miniature paintings, which has earned some recognition and special awards from London galleries, the Royal Miniature Society, the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists and the Florida Miniature Art Society, with his work being purchased by the Hilliard Society for their permanent collection. He now prefers to concentrate on painting life size and is fascinated by light & shade, the imperfections and timelessness of his studies. Rob's preferred medium is oil, and whilst he specialise in still life, he does enjoy painting flowers, landscapes and the odd portrait as well. he is inspired and attracted to light and reflections, with an ambitious attention to tone and detail. The aim for the work is to possess an appeal which is timeless, with the use of blending the traditional old master’s techniques along with a contemporary setting of items and a harmony of colour, shadow and composition. He hopes this gives his paintings an individuality, merging both contemporary and traditional styles.
